Poor Service - Avis Cape Town International Airport

I had an absolutely terrible experience with Avis Car Rental at Cape Town International Airport on Friday, the 7th, at 21:30. After a long flight, I arrived to collect my pre-booked rental, only to be met with shockingly poor service.

The staff were dismissive and unhelpful, showing no urgency or care for the customers waiting. Despite having a confirmed booking, I was made to wait an unreasonable amount of time, with only two staff members at the counter. Inga, the representative at the Avis Preferred counter, refused to assist—even though there were no Avis Preferred clients in the queue. When I asked why she couldn’t help, she dismissively waved me away and refused to apologise.

When I finally reached the counter, the representative, Carl, was equally unhelpful and unwilling to acknowledge the poor service or apologise for the delay. It was clear that customer service was not a priority.

To make matters worse, the entire process was unnecessarily slow, and I witnessed several other frustrated customers receiving the same treatment. Given that this is an international airport where efficiency should be expected, the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was completely unacceptable.

I strongly advise anyone arriving late in Cape Town to avoid renting from Avis. If this is the standard of service they provide, I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere in the future. Extremely disappointed!

This version keeps your original points intact while improving readability and impact. Let me know if you’d like any further tweaks!

Dear Isa,

Thank you for your patience.

Please see below account from the agent that was assisting you:

"Good day Supp

Regarding the complain that the customer is referring to, when the customer approached me, I had a customer that I was assisting .As my customer was struggling to connect to the Wi-Fi , I had advised him to try the airport Wi-Fi by stepping outside.

When Mr Coovadia approached the counter, this I had explained to him , but I'm guessing because the gentleman I was assisting was outside he felt I was just seating and not willing to assist  As I advised him, he needed to join the queue as he will be assisted as soon as one of us was available.

Kind Regards,
Inga,"

The branch has, however, spoken to the agent about self-awareness and the importance of communication not getting lost when speaking to a customer.

Hope the above is in order. For any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,

The Avis Team
