Overcharged at King Shaka branch

I hired a car recently from the King Shaka branch of Avis. Firstly my rental agreement was not emailed to me after signing it. And the invoice was not emailed to me either. I had to call in to get the invoice.

The main problem was with how much I was overcharged when I received the invoice. I did opt for the super waiver, and the assistant told me that it will only be R95 for the 2 days. But when I look at my invoice, I see I was also charged for other items I didn’t opt for. Like Days Windscreen, Tyre and Third Party Damage Waiver and Extended Road Side Assistance.

Admittedly, the I did sign the RA without reading it or it being explained so I didn’t see these charges there. But this does seem sneaky to include it after I return the car. I’ve used Avis many times before and this is the first time that this has occurred. If this is now the new normal, please let me know so that I can choose another provider thats more in line with my travel budget.

Hi Sandeep,

Thank you for writing to us.

We will investigate the matter and revert to you with feedback. According to your signed agreement, the super waiver was not opted for, but rather the windscreen Tyre damage waiver and the personal accident insurance were the additional waivers selected.

Hi

Thanks for looking into it.

I was just told “R95 more for 2 days” and I won’t be liable for any excess in case of damage or theft. No mention about VAT or any other charges.

Like I mentioned I didn’t read the agreement before signing. Just went on trust from the info the assistant gave me.

Regards
Sandeep
