No show charging the client for their inability to provide the expected service

I booked a 4x4 for the Easter weekend with avis in February. One month before the booking date, I visited the branch to inspect the range of vehicles available, and were told they have a good variety ranging from a Hilux, Navara and Isuzu Dmax which I can choose from, and I should come a week before the booking to choose my vehicle. I went back 5days before the booking date, and asked them to keep the hilux for me. On the day of the booking, I went to pick up the car, and all of a sudden, all those vehicles had been sold, and the only vehicle available was a GWM Steed which I could tell was a plant hire bakkie looking at the state of it. Not a suitable car to take my family out on vacation for the Easter weekend.

Waiting around for an hour for Avis to try and find a suitable replacement, I left the branch without any cer*****y that they will have a car ready for me that afternoon.

When I got home, I contacted europcar and they were able to assist me immedeatly with the car I need and I phoned avis asking them to cancel the reservation.

A few days later, Avis charged me a no show fee.

It must be nice running a business where if you cannot provide a service and waste people's time, to also charge them for your negligence.

I hope that cancellation fee is worth the bad publicity.
