Keeps on blocking 3 times invoice amount after finalisation of rental!

Bonline booking was made and as far as the vehicle was concerned all went fine, however, Avisa helped themselves to 2 different deposits blocking my credit card with an amount 3 times the booking value. Even after the final invoice is received they have the cheek to ask the customer to release the blocked amount as it's none of their business. As far as invoicing and payment are concerned they are are an *********** lot.

Avis response is NOT correct. They refuse to contact the credit card company under the pretend that it is an overseas card and it's up to the customer to call their bank from wherever they are. A hold on my credit card from 9 June is still not resolved though the rental was fully settled over a week ago. The local company is not geared to serve overseas customers!

Hi Wolfram,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

The invoice normally would generate within 24-48 hours once the rental is closed. Once we charge the rental invoice the deposit/authorisation hold should automatically be released by your bank.
If you notice that the hold is still 'frozen' in your account you can contact our Customer Care team who can send an instruction to your bank for the hold to be released.

Hi Wolfram,

Our bank is a local merchant bank. The hold/authorisation we reserve should automatically be released by your bank. We can provide a letter that you can give to your bank so they can release the authorisation if it is still on hold.

Unfortunately, our merchant bank will not be able to contact your bank directly.

looks like Avis has chosen the wrong bank now. The bank is able to block amounts but is not able to advise their correspondence bank to release? I can only warn overseas customers to use Avis so they don't fall prey to your inability to handle their payments. Maybe you should be content to only accept South African Credit cards that your bank is able to handle.

Would like to point out that the R10000 hold over my credit card is still not released 3 weeks after Avisa finalised the rental agreement, and debited the rental amount. Their customer service is atrocious and Avisa South Africa is geared to fleece overseas customers

 Hi Wolfram,

A request was sent to our Merchant bank, in order for them to request a release, however they don’t have contact details for your issuing bank. as this is a foreign card. You will need to contact your bank directly in order for them to release any funds that may be on hold.

Furthermore the authoristion letter was sent to you, so that you can issue your bank to release the amount.

Avis Team.
