Falsely Blamed for Damages and Charged

On 29/05/2022 I rented a vehicle from Cape Town international. I signed (important, because the supervisor mentions this later) for the vehicle after they processed my rental. You have to sign the agreement to get the vehicle keys. A staff member walks me to the vehicle, when I inspect the vehicle, I tell him there are a lot of scratches, come have a look. He then uses a mobile device to take pictures. There was quite a few that was shown to him and he took all the pictures. He took pictures because this was not noted on the vehicle. He also took a picture of the mileage. I then leave with peace of mind because we noted all the scratches. I return the vehicle on 01/06/2022. Just after 7pm I receive a email from the supervisor saying that they have concluded the investigation of the damage dispute. I was taken aback, because all this was noted on Sunday and now I receive a email saying that the investigation has been concluded and it is for my account. The supervisor attaches cctv pictures of the car exiting on Sunday as proof that there is no scratches when I left. Yes a distorted cctv picture that can show detail, poor source. Her email says that I should respond to it for further assistance. I have sent 3 emails to the original email. No response from the supervisor till 4 days later. After I have already received a sms the day before of the damage cost. Now I am expected to pay for damages that existed before my rental. I have explained in the response emails that the staff member has all the pictures. The 4 day later response, just echoes her original email. You guys apparently do 3 pre inspections, and have history which you compare it too but you just need to see the pictures your staff took on the day I took the car away to prove that these damages were already there. Instead you want to tell me a unclear cctv image proves there's no damage. If there is no history then you need to train your inspectors better or investigate why I have to go to this extent to avoid charges that I am not responsible for. Why was a car in such bad condition even available to me. If you can take a cctv image to prove me wrong why don't you view your cctv footage and see how long your staff member was there and get his images . You just need to get those images he took and this will be rectified but you rather falsely blame me and charge me. That is poor investigation protocol. Your management of this case was poorly handled. The customer has no say in the matter, that's how it was treated. Can someone please help me rectify this, the supervisor has not taken my scenario seriously enough for me to go back to her.

 Hi Kyle,

This experience with us has not been of the Avis standard and was totally unacceptable. We strive daily to make the exceptional, an everyday experience. It appears that in your case we have failed to meet our own stringent requirements.    We take full responsibility for the situation and understand this situation did not meet your expectations. The cars are to be received in a good condition, however in this case, clearly those standards were insufficient. Instead, it is the exact opposite of what we pride ourselves on as we value our customers and hygiene.
We would like to extend our sincerest apologies for the unpleasant experience. The matter has been addressed with the branch and we will come back with conclusive feedback. We would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. It will help us improve our operations and services.
