E-TOLL CHARGE DISPUTED AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL - SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE

Shocking customer service!!

I rented a car from Avis which is fitted with an e-tag. I dont have e-tags in my own vehicle because i do not support e-tolling at all. So I trip up country from DBN. I pay cash at Marianhill Toll in the cash lane - which is my consumer and democratic right to pay cash and NOT E-TOLLS. I arrive at Mooiplaza Ramp N in the cash lane and the E-Tag beeps whilst Im in the cash paying lane. The operator tells me the E-Tag has beeped so no need to pay cash!! I tell the operator but Im in the cash lane--well nothing she can do its beeped so its paid for! The same happen when I return through the Mooiplaza Ramp S. I did not choose to pay E-Tolls it was forced upon me and this is a breach of my constitutional and democratic right!!

SO I get my invoice form Avis-I am billed for eh e-toll charges R72 and then also an Admin Charge of R22??? I raise this objection with Avis and this is the response verbatim to my objection:

Consumer: Right through your process and the quote I received the charges were extrapolated bar R22 admin fee.

My issue is thus...my right of choice to use e-toll or not was forced upon me so my constitutional right to freedom of choice to opt for the cash only toll and not the e-toll! was not afforded to me. I DID NOT WANT TO PAY E-TOLL and I dispute the admin fee totally. This was not made clear and as stated my right and freedom to choose which toll I go through was ****** from me due to a malfunction. I paid cash at Marianhill Toll S/N because that was my CHOICE!

AVIS: The current law requires our vehicles to pay for use of the GFIP roads, we have chosen to e-tag our fleet to ensure that we both minimize the potential costs to our customers and ensure that they are not harassed by the authorities when they attempt to enforce compliance in the future.

Should you wish to express your opposition to e-tolls while using an Avis rental vehicle, we would suggest you travel on the alternative roads and thereby avoid paying any e-toll costs to SANRAL. As you previously stated the e-tag beeped and the operator informed you of the beep and you did not pay cash. The operation or systems of gantries are operated by SANRAL, therefore if the cash lane has been fitted with e-tag censor that is not within Avis control.

This is unconstitutional and AVIS customer support on Twitter is shocking and they dont seem to be bothered that its their car fitted with their e-tag which is their equipment that is malfunctioning and this is causing issues with a customer which they obviously have no concern for yet they talk about 5 star customer service I beg to differ.

Further I returned the car Sunday already and to date my deposit taken form my credit card has not been refunded to date of this blog despite me requesting my money on 2 occasions--seems AVIS wants to Colette interest off my money form my credit card!!!

Needless to say I just started using AVIS as a referred car hire company--very short lived relationship as I WILL NEVER HIRE FROM AVIS EVER AGAIN!!!!
