DO NOT HIRE A CAR FROM AVIS!

Terrible service from Avis East London, Eastern Cape. Apparently after hiring a car from them before with no problems. I arrived after booking on the 16 Jan 2019. Young gentlemen had a bad attitude firstly. Apparently my Drivers License is now unacceptable because they only accept the metal Drivers License from my country! My Drivers License has INDEFINITE stamped on the back. I handed my passport and my Permanent Resident Permit. He then proceeded to question me on my ‘Status’ as a foreigner living in SA. I then provided him with municipal bills. Unsatisfied he kept questioning me on my status. I then provided him with papers showing properties in my name. I then got highly annoyed as I felt he was xenophobic!! He then refused to let me hire a car. No problem. I asked if they had removed any money off my credit card. He rep**** ‘no’. I then got a taxi and hired a car from a decent hire car company in East London. No problem. Three days later I check my bank statement. Avis has removed money for a ‘NO SHOW’ fee!! Despite numerous phone calls to Lauren, the Manager...as of today, my money still has not been credited to my account! Disgusting service. Awful untrained staff who think they are Customs and Immigration. Total infringement on my privacy. I am a 53 year old female foreign journalist. Unfortunately Avis you picked a fight with the wrong person that day. Now I bring you a War. Be warned public. This is one of many warnings about Avis on Hello Peter. Hire from any of the other car hire companies.
