Disappointment from the treatment I received from Management

My insurance hired me a courtesy vehicle from Avis Car Rental South Africa for an initial 10 days and was later extended to 44 days due to late completion of the repairs.

During the initial signing of the agreement I was advised of the tire and rim waiver as an extra at ZAR 35 per day, I then enquired if how much will it be if it were extended for 30 days and was informed that it would be ZAR 1050. I then informed the Avis rep that I am only taking it for 10 days as it was expensive if it was for 30 days. The courtesy car was later extended and it was hired for 44 days. When I was returning the car I was then told that the tire and rim waiver was also extended. This came as a surprise especially recalling the conversation I had with the rep, I also never bothered myself with calling to check if it was cancelled because of the conversation I had with the rep.

I was also told that it was automatically extended and cannot be cancelled once taken which was never advised at the initial contract signing. When informing the Manager I was told to pay or be handed over to debt collectors. I requested the contacts of the Regional Manager and tried communicating with her to no avail. The company (Avis) just simply debited my account the full amount without even telling me whether my request to have this waiver of 33 days excluded on my account. I never received the response from the Regional Manager despite my communication to her for intervention.

To me this simply shows that big companies like Avis will always do as they please and threaten people like us with debt collectors and lawyers and for blacklisting even if the fault is theirs. To them its about making money whatever it takes irrespective of how they make it.

I am completely dissatisfied and disappointing especially from a company of their caliber where I thought they have the best interests of their customers at heart.

I am disappointed and cannot help but to think how many have been victim of a similar nature and no one came or tried to rescue them, especially management.
