Disappointed with Avis Car Sales
On 26 October 2017 I purchased a 2016 Volkswagen Polo tsi from Avis Car Sales in Pinetown Durban. The vehicle came with the remaining 120000/ 3 years manufactures warranty and a 45000 standard service plan. So I decided to take an extended service plan until 90 000km. The sales agent told me that the vehicle has had it's 30 000km service at the Avis workshop and undergone a A+ road worthy inspection. So I was happy with the purchase as I felt I was getting a good quality vehicle as Avis Car Sales garuntees in their adverti*****ts. Everything was going well until 43 200 km only 13 000 km later, when I heard a bad grinding sound on my left hand side wheel, when braking. On investigation I noticed that the bakes had worn right down to the metal only on the front left hand side. I immediately called Avis Car Sales with little assistants. I told them that the brakes should have been checked at the previous service and inspection. They should have made sure that the brakes would last until the next service. But instead they didn't worry about it knowing that the car would be sold in the next few weeks. But they insisted that it's not their responsibility as it's a wear and tear part. Which I can partly understand but it shouldn't be worn out so soon and only on the one side. So I was then told that I must take the vehicle to a VW agent for repairs otherwise I will forfeit my manufactures warranty. So since my car was almost due for its service I took it to Alpine VW for the repairs and service as they were the only agents that could take my car in on such short notice. As I didn't want to cause more damage that there already is. So both front disks and all four pads had to be replace which cost me just over R 4400.00 with using VW economic parts. If I had used genuine VW parts it was going to cost me over R 7000.00. So I still wasn't happy about this and felt it was very unfair that I had to spend so much money on a fairly new car. So I tried calling Avis to explain how much I had paid and I wasn't happy about it. I felt they should have at least compensated for the bill or at least part of the repairs bill. But when trying to call I just got the complete run around. So on Friday the 11 May 2018 I decided to go in person and talk to the sales agent. He seemed quite understanding and made copies of the repair receipt but said he would need to to talk to his branch manager who was currently off until Monday. He would get back to me on Monday as soon as he has spoken to him. A week had passed and I never heard from him. So I decided to call again Monday 21 May 2018. He told me that his branch manager is only back today and he will call me as soon as he can. But instead of calling he sent me the following sms :Good day it's Vijay from Avis I have spoken to my manager and our work shop they said at 30 000km the are still ok and 11 000km is a lot of mileage sir it depends on the driving conditions the traffic and stuff my manager said if was like 5000 OR 6000 KM He would be able to help you sir.... I feel that this was very unprofessional and unfair that they were not willing to assist. This will be the last time I ever by a vehicle from Avis Car Sales and I will never recommend anybody to them. As they advertise top quality new used cars but clearly that is not always the case.
