Dangerous cars and a lack of communication on 3 deprecate occasions for the same issue
On the 28th of January I made a booking for a polo TSI. Upon collection the desk agent was very efficient as I had made an error and booked an automatic instead of the group p. The problem was quickly rectified and I began the rental. At 14:30 I got in the car after the inspection. I found that there was a tyre pressure warning light but I was told to just reset it as this happens all the time. (See the photo below). As I drove out of the parking the fuel gauge went from full to one bar. Not even 2 kms driven. Owning a polo TSI myself for 2 years I can tell you the exact cost to fill it from one bar to full. 250 rand to be exact. Li returned to the branch to ensure this was noted. I was told it had been noted but as you can see on my renter invoice it has not been noted and no credit received. Skip forward to the following Monday I was preparing to leave my destination when I noticed that the front left tyre was indeed flat. (That tyre pressure warning light doesn’t seem to be faulty now does it). I pulled out the spare tyre only to find a massive gash in the tyre that had been cheaply plugged. See photos below. I phoned Avis to be told that I must now divert to rustenberg to have the car changed. After explaining the whole situation and that the tyre was not of my doing but of the previous renter I was told that under no circumstances would I be charged for this ****. But surprise surprise I was charged for the tyre damage and again no rebate for the lack of a full tank of petrol. On top of this the car was going to be returned to Avis Gautrain on Monday as I did not need it till Tuesday but due to the diversion I had to make ( a 3 hour diversion I may add) I was unable to bring it back on time and yet I still get charged an extra day.
Following the rental I was contacted by a customer supposed research company to ask about my experience. I told the lady I wanted someone from Avis to contact me and surprise surprise no one called.
Furthermore this is not the first time something like this has occurred. In 2020 I rented a car from Avis. Again driving out of king Shaka airport the fuel garages dropped a bar. I returned to the rental facility and I was told I would get my rebate. As you can see this was not the case. On top of that the car I was given had a shaking issue where anything over 100 kms an hour and the car would shudder violently. The car was exchanged and not even a sorry was granted for giving an unsafe car. Plus I was still charged to refuel the car that I was not even given when it was full and no money was taken off the rental for the utter inconvenience that this caused myself. Again I was asked to rate the customer experience to which I wrote a very honest review and was told that I would get a call from the company. Again no call. I let this slide last year as I generally had very pleasant dealings with Avis in the past.
I have now contacted Avis 3 times to have the issue rectified but no one has even bothered to phone me back. Amazing customer service for a company that will stop at nothing to ***** you over.
