Credit record not cleared after paying

I paid an outstanding invoice from Avis which had been outstanding since 2014. however, I am still being harrased by MBD to pay it. How does that work?<br> <br> Been trying to contact Avis to help me resolve this and have been pushed from pillar to post. I am really disappointed with the service really.
