Bad Car Rental Experience

I am being made to pay the amount of R1234.78 for “damages” I have not inflicted on the vehicle I hired (Hyundai i10). I still took the option of a Super Waiver: Group A (not sure this is just a money-making scheme.

When I try to call the customer care line to speak to a consultant/supervisor, my call drops every time I’m put on hold.

In telephonic correspondence on Thursday, 11 July 2024, between 16:30 and 17:00 (before catching my flight back to PE from OR Tambo) we were not given instruction on what to do once we reached our vehicle. We searched for 15 – 20 minutes to find someone that would assist us with an inspection, as I refused to move without one being done, as I wanted to avoid something like this happening.

I don’t know the name of the lady that assisted with our inspection upon departure from Avis, when collecting the vehicle. There were quite a few things we noted were problem areas.

During the duration of the time we had the vehicle under our care, there were no hail storms, bad or inclement weather where we were in PTA during the course of our stay. So, for the damage on the roof of the vehicle (dents), I can only conclude that when that specific vehicle was returned on the previous rental outsource, damage was inflicted at that time. Weather reports can be reviewed to substantiate. Please see: https://www.weather25.com/africa/south-africa/gauteng/pretoria?page=month&month=July#google_vignette

Also included in report I received was a picture that siad "Wrong aerial". The wrong aerial? What is the right aerial? I hope that we are not being accused of “theft” in this regard, and not being “billed” ********ly for it. Once again, I wish I had taken video footage of the mediocre “inspection” that was done. As a matter of fact, I would like the video footage of when I collected the car on Sunday, 30 June 2024, around 17:00 – 17:45.

I would like to see that footage, as I am sure it would indicate the “roof damage” that was there beforehand, along with the “right” aerial, as when I collected it.

I’m not even sure what damage the image of the number plate is supposed to reflect.

To be honest, I am highly dissatisfied with the way this is being handled and the accusations levelled against me regarding “damage” that was there to begin with.
