I am extremely dissatisfied with the way Avis (Thandiwe Mabuela - Rental Sales Agent Krugersdorp) has handled my recent rental experience. Firstly, an amount of R1,168.30 was debited from my account without any prior communication or invoice, despite the fact that I had already paid a R2,000.00 deposit. I only discovered this deduction when I checked my bank statement, which immediately disrupted my monthly budget and put me at risk of defaulting on other commitments. When I queried this, the response I received was vague and unhelpful, simply stating that “the car had damages” and that I had signed a damage report. At no point was I provided with proper supporting documentation upfront, nor was I given the option to arrange payment before funds were taken from my account. To make matters worse, another debit of R1,275.80 was later made without authorisation or prior notice, again without any communication or invoice. This is not only unprofessional, but also unacceptable, as it forced me to incur unnecessary bank charges for transactions I had not been warned about. Repeated requests for clarification, invoices, and breakdowns of charges were either delayed or only provided after persistent follow-up. Even then, I never received proactive communication from Avis to explain or resolve the matter in a professional manner. For a company of Avis’s size and reputation, I expected far better transparency and accountability. Unauthorised debits, poor communication, and lack of documentation are serious issues that undermine trust with customers. I would strongly caution others to be vigilant when providing banking details to Avis, as my experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
