Avis O.R Tambo Rental “****”

On the 16th of April, I went to Avis O.R Tambo and rented Polo 1.0 TSI. I was meant to return it the following day on the 17th of April.

Upon realising that I wouldn’t bring it back on the agreed time I checked my rental agreement to contact the branch and request an extension. To my surprise the RA had a different vehicle captured which was an automatic Toyota Scarlet XI. I called the call centre and went through to central reservations, I spoke to a lady by the name of Bongi and she reassured me she would inform the branch of this error.

That evening when I brought the car back, I went back to the rental agents and I informed them of this gross error. And they reassured me it was fixed, and that I would get the amended email that very evening. To my surprise again , the amended RA had another error. The price estimate was incorrect and was over R100 000. How could that be for a Polo rental for just 2 days?

On Friday morning I got a call from the branch that they had noted a scratch on the drivers side of the door. I went to the branch to query the pricing issue and understand what is happening. The rental agent by the name of Thandi that had amended the RA the night before started hurling insults at me while I was explaining the situation to one of her colleagues.

I was really baffled at her reaction considering that she was supposed to try and fix her error if it was genuinely so. While at the branch I was told they were unable to print the amended RA with correct car model and pricing as the “scratch” on the door was still going to be fixed.

I requested they show me a screenshot of this information which was captured by their Returns Team ( they handle all damages or issues regarding the vehicle once brought back), the screenshot had all my details but the vehicle which was noted to have had the apparent “scratch”, was a different model and had a different car registration.

This is beyond just a clerical error and I have reason to believe there is something unorthodox happening there. First they capture an incorrect car make and model, secondly they capture incorrect pricing and thirdly they capture damages on an incorrect vehicle all together.

How do they know the correct KMs I travelled? How can they confidently state those scratches are from the vehicle I drove with so many questionable issues I’ve picked up. Even on the Safe drive app it still shows I was driving a Scarlett, which is incorrect.

I have sent numerous emails with Sibongile M, the branch manager included but I have received no communication with a clear explanation on what is happening.

I have so many questions… God forbid I got into an accident how were they going to claim from the insurance when they made such “gross errors”. Avis has compromised my safety and has caused me much distress during the Holy Easter Weekend.

This screams *****ulent and ***** behaviour. The Avis O.R Tambo team has shown the highest form of gross incompetence and misconduct.

Good day,

It’s been days now and I have received zero communication on the progress of this “investigation”, the branch has still not rep**** to any of my emails.

Your company policy states that upon returning the vehicle an invoice is issued within 3 working days and I haven’t received it either. I still do not have the correct RA as well.

This is beyond ridiculous and it’s compromising me, the rental was taken on a business card and I’m required to account. Accept this as a final and formal complaint, should I not receive assistance in the next 48 hours I will be escalating this to the ombudsman.

Good day,

It’s been days again and I have received no concrete explanation as to what transpired. And despite my concerns, strong evidence that proves the incorrect vehicle was captured for repairs I was still billed for said repairs either way.

To make matter worse I have further been billed for refuelling services when in actual fact I refilled the vehicle prior to dropping it off. I have presented evidence to your team, and still have been billed irregardless.

I have tried all possible means to reason and find common ground with your team. However , I will no longer allow you to tremble on my consumer rights and ****** me.

I urge other members of the public to come forward, so we can present our horror customer experience with Avis to MIOSA. We can’t allow such behavior to thrive.

Good day Avis Team,

Your silence speaks volumes.

Till date I’m experiencing issues, your Returns Team sent me another incorrect invoice. They omitted the fuel charges and they increased the repairs amount.

How is this possible ??? I disputed the damages and you didn’t act on the evidence provided. Now they are inflating the pricing ?

I’m beyond disappointed. Is this how Avis does business now ?
