AVIS or A .... holes?
Outsurance arranged car hire on my behalf, with Avis. Herewith the sequence of events thereafter:
1. 6 hours ( Friday afternoon) after Outsurance advised the car hire had been arranged, I was phoned by AVIS. (5.30 pm - I t really helps when people work from home, when the offices are closed, and nothing can actually be done)
2. I was advised because it was after hours, I could only pick up the vehicle on Saturday.
3. I asked to pick up at 5 pm, and then was told Avis closes at 1 o'clock
4. I was also told I need to pay a deposit of R1450. I asked for bank details and was told Avis only accept credit cards or cash. ( in the year 2020 Avis does not accept the most widely used payment method? They also do not accept credit card details over the phone. )
5. I was then told I could pick up the car from the Sandton branch at 5 pm on Saturday.
6. On Saturday morning I drew the R1450 and arranged an Uber ride for Saturday afternoon. (R25 cancellation fee)
7. I was then phoned by Avis Sandton and told they close at 1? But Lebo would be at work on Sunday morning and I could pick up then. I then thanked the person, and asked if it was safe to use R1450 cash on a Sunday? R1450? she said . Actually it's R2000.
8. By now I realize Avis is , kindly put, dysfunctional , so before booking my Sunday morning Uber ride, (remember cancellation fee is R25) I phone Avis Sandton. No answer (phoned 4 times and then my data ran out)
