AVIS not refunding deposit

I paid deposit to Avis using my credit card and they promised to refund my deposit if I returned the car without defects. Since I've returned the car, I've never got back my deposit. They keep telling me that I must check my bank balance since I won't receive any sms confirming that deposit has been refunded or that I should phone my bank to check if no money is pending from Avis. I have been checking with my bank and I've been calling Avis ever since with no luck. No one from Avis seem to know how refunds work, they keep referring me back to my bank without giving a reference number. I just don't wanna hear the story of money being on some "temporary hold", I don't care, I want my money back.
