Avis lack of service
Initially we had to queue for two hours before we got served eventually at 2pm to be informed that the car isn’t ready for us although we booked it for 12pm.
Then we were told to wait outside and 5 minutes the consultant arrived and said they found another car for us, a small mini car which we said it was fine and we expected the vehicle and agreed to take it because we were tired after long hours of travelling. Because it was an older hired car it has numerous marks and dents on it and the upholstery had stains on it which we noted down with their assistant.
We then drove off and then noted on the fuel tank that it was actually empty. After numerous emails to the service department they eventually acknowledge that we won’t be charged for the fuel tank as a standard practise.
Then a few days later it was pointed out to us that the vehicle did not have a licensed disc on it which are a legal requirement in South Africa ( In England we don’t have that). We immediately contacted their service centre again. We got a quick response at that point that we shouldn’t be using the vehicle and they would arranged an exchanged. Five days later we still have the same vehicle and no resolution. My husband find it extremely stressful driving an unlicensed car on the road.
We received a swap in return for the unprepared car which we were happy about but now they have send us an invoice for the fuel they now charged us which they emailed that we do not have to pay for the fuel because we received the car empty with no fuel.
Also, we also received an invoice that we drop off the vehicle 1000km away which was in Port Elizabeth when in fact we dropped it off at Cape Town International Airport since our flight departed from CPT International Airport.
This whole car rental was just a major disaster.

Now today I have noticed that Avis took off another amount from my credit card that I now had to block my card for further deductions. I’m waiting for them to reversed charges from the £560.36 amount and totally reversed the amount of £392.78 which I don’t know what that was for. My initial booking was supposed to be £491 for my 3 weeks and 4 days. I hope this will be resolved soon.
I won’t recommend anyone to rent a car from Avis Budget
