Avis grossly unprofessional conduct
I had 2 gentlemen barge into my place of work demanding to "take the car" because of non-payment. The car they were referring to was an Avis mini-lease car. Stunned as I was I tried to remain calm and explained to them that the invoice for the month of September had been fully paid and I was waiting for the October invoice; which of course they didn't believe until I had to print out my credit card statement from the office printer to physically show them. This was still not enough apparently as they proceeded to call the Avis branch in Port Elizabeth Airport for further instructions handing the phone to a Claudia. All the while I had colleagues moving up and down in the foyer in full view of what was happening. What happened next would test the limits of my patience and restraint : I began my conversation with Claudia by calmly explaining to her that sending people to my place of work to create a scene was unprofessional, uncalled for and unacceptable. With a blase tone Claudia, without apology or any regard for the fact that she was speaking to a client proceeded to insinuate that I was avoiding their phone calls and I was "driving around in a Avis vehicle" (a supreme privilege apparently judging by her tone). I reminded her that there are other channels of communication (e-mail) if I was allegedly avoiding phone calls that would have been far more professional. I explicitly told her that I would lay a complaint erroneously expecting her to apologize, which of course she didn't, suffice for her to tell me in no uncertain terms that I should visit the branch immediately to come and correct the cardinal sin of not having provided enough funds on my credit card for authorization (not non-payment per invoice) for October; this was still during working hours mind you. I then explained to her that I was at work and would be picking up my wife from the airport later, I would visit the branch then; which was acceptable to madam Claudia who would hand over my "case" to another colleague as she would knock off. I wish I could say with absolute cer*****y that I would have experienced the same thing if I wasn't black but sadly I can't; I'm by no means accusing any of the participants in this incident of ******, not with cer*****y. Long story short; Claudia needs refresher training in how to treat a client and I'm an unhappy client as it stands.
