So I rented a car from Avis on 11 August 2026. I picked up the car at the Port Elizabeth Airport and the service was excellent ( Thank You, Sir) I paid my deposit and went on my way. My own car repairs took longer than expected so I had to bring back the car and rent another one. When I got there all of a sudden the deposit almost tripled. I was like whoa how does it go from R3500 one week to R9500 last year I rented and the deposit was R6500. ( My opinion was o if I rented last week then I Avis would have held onto R19000 of my money for weeks as all funds would only be released 7-14 days after returning the vehicle) According to the agent they could not use the previous depoist for the second rental. So off course I was asking for clarity. As the next car I rented was a lower rated car so off course it is confusing. Everyone tried getting me to pay an additional R1700 for super waiver nonsense. I asked the lady helping but it makes no sense. I also learned of an additional R3000 charged by Avis if you are a local renter from the city and not from a flight. (discriminatory- if you ask me) How does that make sense. This was never aimed at you Ma'am just by the way. In true client fashion I asked for a manager and Nadia never came to even try and explain. Instead they tried to shift blame to the first agent who helped me the week before. (off course- he was not there to defend himself) I then said to the agent helping me, you know I feel I have been embarrassed enough as obviously when you complain people will start looking at you. I then saw an ad for a winter special that you could get an upgrade. I asked about the upgrades and was told that were no upgrades available. A little while later the man who came after me at the next counter got an "upgrade" yet I was told there were none.... So I left I went to the car in question and I was not happy with the car's cleanliness and the tyres were an issue for me. I know you have your safety checks but when i looked at tyres , the gentleman still told oh no they are fine they were just not polished like the other car's tyres ... (I am not even going to comment on that) So I call they Avis helpline as I felt too embarrassed to go back and complain again) Manager Nadia not once in this whole ordeal even bothered to address me or even try to make amends. I waited for them to organise another car as I was told Nadia would help. Nadia went home I get it we all have a home to go to. But never not once did she acknowledge me or my dissatisfaction. The lady who assisted me over the Lwandi was truly amazing. I managed to get that "upgrade" you know the one that was not available. My complaint is that Avis should relook their policy. All in all I do not think i will recommend Avis to any one if I am honest I may not know all the ins and outs of renting a car maybe it is my ignorance but some of the things that happened yesterday was not right and did not feel fair.
