Avis - damaged vehicle / Avis rejecting request to make an inspector available to check status of vehicle
Good day
I rented a vehicle from Avis @ George airport on 20 May 2021. Upon initial inspection, I asked the Avis inspector to note many nicks, scratches, sprayed areas on this vehicle.
We returned the vehicle to Avis @ George airport on 21 May 2021 at about 18h30.
I stood in the queue at the counter in order to return the vehicle. The Avis representative assisted me at the counter and I told her I'm here to return a vehicle and that I want an Avis inspector to accompany me in order we can conduct a combined inspection before I leave the premises.
Avis told me that a flight had just landed and that they are extremely busy. I was told to leave the key with the representative at the counter. i.e. I asked for an inspector and was rejected.
on Monday, 24 May 2021 I received a call from Avis asking me when I will deliver their vehicle. I responded and told them that the vehicle was delivered on Friday, 21 May 2021 already.
This made me suspicious because if all the paperwork and checks had been done then the vehicle would have reflected as "returned" on the Avis system.
Later I was contacted by Avis again advising me that they noted a scratch on the vehicle. I asked when the vehicle was inspected because the vehicle was not damaged in my care. I was told the vehicle was inspected the day after we returned the vehicle i.e. 22 May 2021.
I made it clear to Avis that this vehicle was damaged in their care. If Avis made a representative available when I requested , and a combined inspection took place (the norm whenever I rent a vehicle) then Avis would have noted that there was no new damage to the car.
Avis was reluctant to accept the fact that the car had been parked in the care for an extended period of time before they informed me of a new scratch noted. In the Avis parking area there are many cars moving in and around the returned vehicles.
Avis should've inspected the vehicle with me when I requested. If Avis did the combined inspection they would've noted no new damage, However, Avis at George airport did not do what they are responsible for and now that they have noted an issue they want to shift the blame to me as the customer.
Avis in the past week contacted me to apologies for not making an inspector available when I requested. This apology to me is irrelevant, because as a result of them not making an inspector available I'm left disputing a claim which I'm not liable for.
I request that Avis reverse the funds deducted off my credit card. I will not accept liability for a fault or oversight of Avis.
