Avis car rental agreement number E***

Avis, this review is to highlight my disdain in your operation, you rented my family a vehicle in Cape Town which was not roadworthy, no one walked my family to the vehicle and did a handover and check, my family was accosted by a stranger in the parking lot (no Avis security) and on returning said vehicle, you deducted an amount of R4547.83 from my wife’s deposit for a missing spare wheel. My wife has listed you on this platform for your lack of correspondence to this matter, and all she got was an auto response from your PR department… which I presume I will also get. Phoning the branch is a waste of time, as you have to phone a call centre, we have left countless messages for a contact person to call back (Dineo at the Cape Town international Airport branch) - no call back.

This goes out to all who read this that Avis does not have a customer service driven business ethos so please make sure that you check your rental vehicle before leaving the branch. Avis I hope your business model fails and I am disgusted how you handle things and angry that you gave my family an unroadworthy vehicle (no spare tyre)…… and no security or representative to check vehicle. Look forward to your auto response Avis Avis rental agreement E***

Dear Kyle,

Thank you again for your feedback.

Following our investigation with the branch, we’d like to share the outcome regarding the vehicle handover and the charge you’ve queried.

Please note that all our vehicles undergo a thorough pre-inspection before being released to customers. At the time of collection, we also encourage customers to inspect the vehicle themselves and report any concerns to our staff before leaving the branch. Our agents are available on-site to assist with noting down any issues or damage.

We ensure that all vehicles released are roadworthy and safe to drive. However, if a customer feels otherwise, they are welcome to request a replacement vehicle at any Avis branch. After reviewing the vehicle’s history, we can confirm that the boot was undamaged and the spare tyre was present prior to your rental. Upon return, new damage was observed and the spare tyre was missing. Based on this, the charge of R4,547.83 has been found to be valid.

We truly appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention and understand that this may not be the outcome you were hoping for. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you'd like to discuss anything further—we’re here to help.
Thank you.

Avis Team.
