Avis Billing and Customer Care Failures

On Tuesday the 30th of January 2018 at 8pm I tried booking a car from the Avis website, however after providing my card details and making payment I got an error message and the booking did not go through. The booking was for the next day at 10am on Wednesday the 31st of January 2018.

Money however was deducted from my account. And does not reflect in my account.

On Wednesday morning, I went to your Sunninghill branch where I was supposed to pick the car up. I was informed there was no booking for me, and I explained that I recieved an error message and a hold was placed for the amount (R 1 408) in my account and for this to be reversed, I would need to speak to my bank.

After I went and spoke to my bank I went back to your Sunninghill branch and explained to one of your consultants at that branch (who informed me I must liase with my bank) that for my bank to release the R1408 that Avis took from my account, I would need to get an authorisation number from Avis for the specific transaction.

The consultant proceeded to take my card details and called the Avis call centre on my behalf to get an authorisation number to the bank. After all this was done, I was informed that the money from my account would be available within 48 hours in my account. It has now been 4 days and I have been calling Avisa, and my bank has been calling Avis, to get this issue resolved.

I am still not able to access the R1408 I was charged on the Avis website because after all my liasing with AVIS people. No one has been able to assist me and I am still unable to get my money back.

At this point, the only thing Avis needs to do, is to provide an authorisation code to my bank. I was assured that this has been done, but 5 days after, my bank still advises me that Avis has not in fact provided the required code for them to release the funds into my account.

Yesterday (3rd February 2018) my bank tried doing a teleconference with Avis, and we were told by Avis consultants that the cancellation department does not work on weekends.

I was told by an Avis consultant that this was done on the 31st of January already. So after 3 days from when I was told that the money would be refunded into my account (after 48 hours max) and after the Sunninghill consultant said they would get back to me, no one from Avis has tried calling me.

This has been a very bad experience with Avis and I am unlikely to ever hire from them ever again.
