AVIS

After being repatriated to South Africa on the 30th September I rented the cheapest and most basic car from AVIS at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg. I later received an invoice with the complete incorrect car details. Wrong make and model, color and mileage. I drove directly to my guest house, 1091 kms in 12 hours according to my gps. The guest house was 3 kms from Port Elizabeth airport. The following morning I drove directly to the airport and delivered the car in exactly the same condition I received it. Including the full tank of fuel. When I explained that the invoice I received was incorrect I was explained that the system was correct and the car on the system was correct and that the rental agent may have made a mistake on my invoice. Having had 200 free kms as per the agreement I was expecting to be charged the R2.60 per km for extra mileage for approximately ****ms. The agent proceeded to tell me that according to the gauge I had driven 2200 +kms. Which was clearly impossible as I was there before 9am and in order to drive that mileage I would still have to be driving. I disputed the mileage and was told that they have sent the OR Tambo branch an email and I would receive feedback and a new invoice in a short while. It is now 12th of October and I have neither received the feedback, nor the updated invoice. AVIS, however have proceeded to withdraw R13877.66 from my account! A far cry from the approximately R4235.51 I was meant to be charged with the "Repatriates Special" AVIS was offering. Having been unemployed since March, and with a family to feed, I feel this is unacceptable from AVIS as that extra almost R10 000.00 charged was urgently needed for rent and deposit. Not a single phone number for AVIS works and my repeated emails to customer care have been ignored. Even attempts to reach the most senior person at AVIS, Ramasela Ganda, has been futile. I would like to have this resolved as soon as possible.
