Authorization hold not returned in full!
I’m not getting anywhere with Avis customer service regarding my authorisation amount release. It’s honestly pathetic that we have to scream and shout for our deposits to be given back to us when they are so quick to deduct the rental fee and also put a hold of another amount.
A hold of R7835 was put on my card on 4 January 2024, I returned the car on 8 January. Avis deducted the rental charge but upon releasing the funds it was short by about R2200. The car was returned in the same condition with a full tank. I did an inspection with the Avis employee on collection & drop off at their Pinetown branch , and all was in order so there’s no reason for the full deposit amount not to be returned. Their hopeless customer service department keep referring me to my bank saying that Avis merchant bank has requested for the full release of the amount to my bank but after an hour on the phone with my bank they have categorically confirmed that they aren’t holding anything. So why have Avis not released my amount in full? At this point, this is theft.
I want the rest of my money and I want it immediately please . Avis doesn’t get to play God with money that does not belong to them.
Thank you for writing to us. We have investigated your matter and the following has been established: Avis requests your bank to reserve a temporary authorisation hold against the funds of your card. Your bank will usually present this as a pending transaction that reduces the money you have available to spend.
This might appear as a debit on your statement, but it is not. No funds are debited from your bank account. The authorization amount was automatically released back into your available balance. A request was sent through to the bank, who confirmed this. However due to this being a personal card, No further information can be supp**** to us, such as the date of the release. You may contact your bank directly in order to acquire this information.
We do not request the Bank to partially release amounts that are pending, the entire amount is requested for a release, however what appears is on your available balance is dependent on your account.
Thank you. The Avis Team
