Not understanding, or helpfull

I purchased the Avast Driver Updater Software after reading it's features in a promotional e-mail, sent to me by Avast. I activated the Software & then proceeded to update my laptop's drivers. There were 8 outdated drivers on my laptop & when the software was updated the 5th driver, it caused my laptop to hang & then to crash. Since then, I've spent almost 3 weeks & R10 500 to retrieve my "lost" data a & to purchase a new Hard Drive for my laptop. The ONLY response I've been given from Avast, after contacting them in this regard; is that they will ONLY refund me for the Avast Driver Updater Software & refuse to take any responsibility for paying for any costs incurred from damages caused by their Avast Driver Updater Software! This, after I purchased the software & followed all of their instructions regarding the operating of this software. My advice - either pray that their software works correctly, or else, stay well clear of Avast & any of their software and marketing ... they care more for the sales of their products, than they care about their customers!
