Not all it seems !

I booked my vehicle in for a full diagnostics report on the 22nd February. I had made the booking via email and at the time had advised that I was coming through from Robertson and would like to bring it in at 8.30am.When I arrived I was advised by the receptionist that the vehicle would be there the whole day,I told them this was not possible as I was from Robertson.She then consulted with someone else who could apparently make a decision.He then asked me what the problem was and I told him I needed a full diagnostics report as I wanted to know of any potential problems on the car. I also advised him that there was a battery drain problem and that I suspected the catalytic converters were blocked as it almost sounded like there was a miss although the car was not missing.

He then advised he would take it in immediately and that I should come back a little later. I came back an hour later and then had to sit in the waiting area for another 2 hours.The receptionist then advised me that she was preparing a quote but was just waiting for a price on a new battery. I told her that there was a new battery in the car which she conveyed to the technician.Nothing further was then said about the battery.I was then presented with a quote for 8 new spark plugs and a coil pack.I advised them that it was not necessary for new spark plugs as the car had new spark plugs in and had been serviced a few months back.I was then told that not all plugs were the same which I objected to.I had bought the plugs and I had changed them,there was NO ways they were different as I am quite particular.I then asked about the condition of the cats and was told that they cannot run the test without changing the plugs and coil pack first ! The receptionist asked me what I wanted to do and I told her just to give me back the vehicle, I was then charged R650 for labour and a diagnostics test.By this time I was so fed up that when the car was ready I left.

My complaint is thus: Why was it necessary to keep the car for a whole day for a simple diagnostics check which incidentally was not done ? My chain email regarding the booking advises clearly I am from Robertson and that I wanted to bring it in first thing in the morning.It was also assumed the battery was no good yet if a simple visual check was done it would have been seen that the battery was new as there is a date engraved on the top.As for the sparkplug debacle I simply have nothing further to add other than that I do still have the invoice for the purchase and the vehicle has not even covered more than 4000 kms since being changed.

I did send the complaint through to the company and was advised that it was not justified,that they do a complete checkup free of charge,(this I was never advised of),that I should have requested a printout for the test and that a load test was done on the battery.I was also advised not to "slander" their name otherwise ...

Well this is fact,I paid for what took place as well as for a test that never took place and if it had of why would I need to request a printout.The sole reason for the car being there was for a complete test and then I need to ask for the results ? Really ?

If a load test was done on the battery why not stand by your conviction that it possibly needs replacing.I was never told about any load test at the time but I do realise that batteries can fail at any time.

I feel aggrieved that my request was not adhered to, I still have no clue as to the vehicles condition and I feel that my time and money were totally wasted ! I would never go back there and would definitely not recommend them !

Good day Mr Ferguson,
You booked your vehicle in at our Salt River branch for a Complete Diagnostic Fault Scan. Our Foreman advised that it will take some time as we do not only scan the vehicle, because we are a reputable car service centre we do our due diligance and check over each vehicle (free of charge) for our customers peace of mind. After the check over and the scan this is what our technician found:
1. The diagnostic scan reported that the number 4 right back coil is faulty, we do not print out diagnostic test reports, but you were more than welcome to request this report the day the vehicle was in our workshop, if you believed that a diagnostic test was not done;
2. Your vehicle required 8 new spark plugs and as reported to you by our Foreman, 2 of the spark plugs that was in your vehicle was the wrong size. Please take this up with the workshop that replaced your spark plugs in May 2016;
3. We did a load test on your battery and the test came back saying that there was no load and the battery needs to be replaced. If this was a new battery as stated in your email, please take it to where you bought it as they would then replace it under their warranty.
We reported on all the items we found to be faulty so please take this up with the workshop that did the work on your vehicle in May 2016 and the place where you bought the battery.

Minette Williams
