Backyard Mechanic Service and Quality Levels

I spent a total of R14 000 on my Audi for various maintenance tasks at the Autoworks Salt River branch, including a service, both outer CVs, rear brake discs, front bearings and left rear bearing. This required around three visits to the branch with the following outcomes:

- After the initial change of CVs, one fails within a week. Took the car back at an inconvenience to my wife and I. Apparently it was a faulty part. This is understandable at this stage.

- After my front bearings were replaced, the car started making an awful noise from the front wheels. Took it back again. Autoworks charged me for two new drop links that were never faulty until they changed my front bearings. The mechanic had no explanation, so I paid R1000 to replace working drop links....

- After servicing my rear brakes, the car starts making an even louder noise from the rear AND another CV joint breaks. Took it back yet again....After speaking to Matthew, the Manager at Salt River branch, he stated that he was getting "frustrated" with the situation after driving the car and "not hearing a single noise". So I assume he sees it appropriate to get frustrated with a customer who's spent R14 000 at his place of business.

- After having to go back and SHOW Autoworks that I am not in the wrong, they blame the **** parts again....with no ounce of embarrassment on their part. I also discover between visits that my speedometer no longer worked and that there is STILL a noise coming from my front wheels.

After countless returns to Autoworks, I show up admittedly later than agreed to have my CVs replaced yet again, and am told the car might need to stay overnight - inconveniencing my wife and me yet again.

Unbelievably disappointed and angry at the level of disregard showed to me as a customer from a company with such reputable brand name. I expect to be contacted via this or some other forum by Gunther Schmidts at his very earliest convenience as I won't accept this type of service, not even a backyard mechanic.

I've made an appointment with Audi service agents to have each and every new part installed by Autoworks checked and reported on.

Yaseen Burt
**********

Dear Yaseen,
I tried to get in contact with you, but unfortunately your cell number was not available and I’m going overseas tonight.
Can you please contact Matthew with the remaining problem as we would like to sort out the problem as soon as possible.
Audi only supplies the complete driveshafts for your vehicle which are around R 10 000 each. Therefore we opted to replace the outer CV-Joints only.
The first brand we utilized failed twice. We have contacted the supplier and made them aware of this. We did not have problems with that brand in the past, so I want to hear from the supplier if it was a faulty batch or if the CV-joint is possibly not listed for your vehicle.
We have replaced it with a different brand.
Regarding the brake noise we need to drive the vehicle, ideally together with you, so that we can hear the noise. When Matthew drove it, he could not pick up the noise. His frustration was not related to you, but purely to the fact that he could not pick up the problem and due to the fact that the CV-Joints failed twice, something we have not experienced before.
Please accept my apology for the inconvenience.
We want to get to the bottom of the problem.
Our work does carry a 60 000km/1 year warranty.
Your Sincerely
