Tyre Damage Guarantee, Mathematics?
I shopped around and bought Firestone tyres because of their All Road Hazard Guarantee. I was not surprised when I had my first claim. As always marketing and reality do not add up.

I had a puncture and went to Autoquip Centurion to have it repaired. I have always received excellent service from them. The puncture was not repairable and I was told they would replace the tyre under the Firestone Tyre Damage Guarantee.

The tyre was removed from the rim and a first person measured 3 mm tread remaining. I had another person measure and he measured 4 mm at the lowest point and 4.7 mm at other points. (Dubious?) That translated to 50% tread left. According to their price this tyre is R1170.00. So I paid in 50%. Add another R90.00 for fit, balance and nitrogen fill, which I specifically declined but was charged, and I paid in R675.01. I asked for a quote for a replacement tyre as I felt like upgrading my spare tyre and was Quoted R995.00 fitted and balanced!
Beware of the Firestone Marketing hype!

Except for the measuring and billing errors the service from Autoquip was friendly and efficient and I shall support them again in future.
