From Excitement to Regret: A Customer Service Disaster

I took physical delivery of a new vehicle from Autohaus Beyers (MMU Group) on 29 April 2026.

As part of our transaction, the dealership contractually agreed to fully settle the outstanding finance on my trade-in car, a Kia Sonet. My new financing agreement was explicitly subject to this settlement condition. What followed was a nightmare of non-responsiveness and severe operational failure, debit order being deducted from account. For nearly a month, I received absolutely no transparent communication, customer service, or feedback. The salesman, Zaheer, repeatedly ignored my phone calls and left direct messages completely unanswered, leaving me to face immense financial anxiety in total isolation. Only after I was forced to issue a formal Letter of Demand and escalate the matter to Nedbank and Absa Vehicle Finance did the dealership finally request an updated settlement quote on 27 May and cleared the bank debt of the trade-in vehicle. While the finance is now thankfully paid up, Autohaus Beyers remains in active material breach of contract regarding the new vehicle's paperwork.

It has now been over a month, and they have completely failed to deliver my NaTIS registration documents and licensing disc and fail to answer where the car currently is in the process of registration. I have requested a valid 21-day permit in the meantime (via multiple requests on email) to be able to use the new vehicle lawfully - no answers were provided as they constantly deflect from direct requests. In terms of South African road traffic laws, it is an offence to operate an unregistered vehicle, directly depriving me of the lawful use of my asset.

To add insult to injury, I have just received a traffic fine in my name for the trade-in Kia Sonet, the offence date is on 9 May 2026 proving their staff operated my old vehicle on public roads after, I handed it over and was no longer in possession of the vehicle, without changing the registration.

This has been the worst customer experience of my life. I was so excited about my new vehicle but this quickly turned into a big nightmare, *****ing absolutely all the joy from me.

Their corporate management attempts to deflect their failures onto "banking timelines" and "administrative processes" but their almost 34-day administrative delay, lack of professionalism and terrible client service are the real issues.

I strongly caution anyone looking to purchase a vehicle from this dealership.

Hi Chantelle,

We sincerely apologise for the frustration and inconvenience you have experienced throughout this process.
We acknowledge that the delays relating to the settlement and registration of your vehicle have fallen short of the standard of service we aim to provide. While the settlement of the trade-in finance account has now been completed, we understand that there are still outstanding concerns regarding the registration documentation and the traffic fine issued in respect of the trade-in vehicle.

Please be assured that we are actively working to resolve the remaining matters and will continue to provide you with updates as they become available. We appreciate your patience and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Regards,
Patience
