Worst buying experience
This has been the worst buying experience I’ve ever had. The car was priced R16,000 above market value, so I expected it to be in excellent condition. Instead, the first quote I received was 10% higher than the agreed selling price and included several items I had never consented to. After getting that resolved, I was told I had to sign the delivery note before the vehicle could even be sent to me. When the car finally arrived, it was filthy. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned at all — the interior smelled like cigarette smoke, there was ash inside, surfaces were oily and smelled like chips, and there were stains everywhere, even on the roof lining. After paying to have the car cleaned myself, I discovered even more problems: four of the rims were badly damaged, some panels had obviously been resprayed, and a brake pad clip had broken off, causing a rattle. The dealer casually mentioned the rattle on delivery, blaming it on driving on a gravel road — for reasons unknown. I contacted the dealership about all these issues and was told I could fix everything myself and they would reimburse me. So far, I’ve spent R2,600 repairing the rims (still unpaid after two weeks), R2,800 replacing the brake pads (eventually reimbursed), and R1,500 for licensing (also reimbursed). The passenger window and nearby panels were severely scratched, which they agreed to pay for. On top of this, I’m the one taking time off work having made 400km in round trips to a VW dealership to get the repairs done. The dealership was completely dishonest about the vehicle’s condition, and their so called “126 point check” is meaningless — none of these issues were identified. Looking back, I should have refused the car the moment it arrived.
