Very Bad Service

On the 2nd December 2015 I contacted Eco Auto dealership after identifying a Vehicle that I like on their website the car is Jeep Cherokee. I then spoke to gentleman who identified himself as Ricardo.

The following day I went to Eco Auto dealership to see the vehicle and I found it. When I was checking the vehicle I saw some oil on the floor and I asked Ricardo if the vehicle is leaking some oil and he said NO there was another vehicle parked there. He further assured me that when I buy a vehicle from them they always service the vehicle before delivery to ensure that all is in order.

On the 11th I went to fetch the vehicle and again Ricardo confirmed that the vehicle has been serviced.

On my arrival home I realised that there are several faults on the vehicle I drove it that weekend to check and be sure, I noticed the following:

1. It was raining on Saturday and I realised that water is drop inside the vehicle. 2. At night when i try to switch on some lights one of the lights was not working the bulb was burned. 3. The vehicle was also notifying me that I must change the oil. (message appeared from the screen)

I waited till Monday the 14th to return the car to Eco Auto so that it can be fixed. I left the car with Ricardo who promised to fix it.

On my arrival to fetch the car that evening he told me he replaced the light and he fixed the suspicious leak from top roof. I then asked him about the oil notice from the vehicle if he changed oil and he said that will be changed when I take the car for service.

I took a car home. Few months later I realised that there are oil leaks on the vehicle. Being a woman I had to pour sand under the vehicle so that I can be sure of the leaks. And indeed i found that the vehicle has oil leaks.

On Monday 11th July 2016 I phoned Ricardo to let him know about the problem and he said he will tell me when to bring the vehicle for repair. A week a most went by and i decided on Friday16th July 2016 to take the vehicle in for repairs otherwise I will wait forever.

I also phoned Jeep in Midrand to check the service interval of the vehicle and I was told the vehicle ‘s service interval is 12 000km, so I must wait until is 152 000km to bring it for service, the current km readings are 148 000(When I bought the vehicle was driven for 137 744km) 148000km – 137 744km = 10 256 km and the last service as it appears in service book is of 131 842km done on the 20/03/2015 by Jeep at Menlyn Pretoria. This Clearly show that the vehicle was never serviced at purchase before delivery since it was supposed to be serviced at 144 000km.

Ricardo phoned me on Tuesday the 19th in the afternoon around 16:00 to tell me that the vehicle has oil leaks indeed and his mechanics well repair the damage. He mentioned that oil pipe is leaking and to fix it will cost R 2500 as per quotations. I told him before buying the vehicle I asked about oil leaks which he denied being of the vehicle and he then said he will assist me with the cost, Eco Auto will pay half of the cost and I must pay half.

He later came back to me again on the 21st and said he also replaced the caskets and oil, and the costs are now R3500.He further said I must come to collect the vehicle and make the payment to him because Eco Auto has paid the mechanics already. I asked if he took the vehicle to Jeep and he said NO but the mechanics he uses are good and cheaper than Jeep.

I asked him why didn't they pic issue of oil pipes and all these other items that he claim to have changed before they deliver the car to me and he only blamed the mechanics that worked on the vehicle before. I asked him where did he service the car and he said he used his private mechanics and they only did oil service before delivery of vehicle which I don’t believe according to the current state of the vehicle.

On the 22nd July 2016 my brother went on collect the vehicle around 14:00 and to my surprise the car was in the same state I took in. The car still has oil leaks and it still pops the message on the screen that I must change oil.

I find it difficult to believe that the car was serviced even before nor send to AA for mechanical check. I can’t believe that all the things that he mentioned to have been fixed are indeed fixed. This is the same person who concealed oil leakage of the vehicle deliberately knowing that I’m woman and knows nothing about cars.

See the attached proof.
