The Worst Insurer under the Sun
On 12 June 2015 I was involved in a car accident. The insurer approved the claim to an amount of R70 000 (in my opinion the vehicle should have been written off). The claim amount is half of the retail value of the vehicle. The repairer (Renew it Randburg) promised that the vehicle will be ready by 04 August 2015. To my dismay the vehicle was only ready to be handed back to me on 13 October 2015. This after many broken promises and half done jobs. Over the next 2 months the vehicle had to go back to Renew it for further repairs as they had not properly fixed the car and some mechanical parts were actually missing from the vehicle. All these reports of faults reached Auto & General but with little action. Only around January/February 2016 did a service consultant from Auto & General call me to find out whether I was happy with the repairs. The call was immediately escalated and it seemed like I would finally have some joy. I would get calls from Andre and people from Renew it promising to book the car in and give me a courtesy car. I am still waiting over a period of a month now. My car today mechanically broke down. The same noise I had reported many times seems to be the culprit. This is a vehicle I use for corporate shuttles to generate an income. Now not only am I without a vehicle but I am also losing revenue (again!) and have to still pay my driver. On the anniversary of my policy Auto & General had the gall to increase my premiums by almost a whopping 60%. Only after protest was this reduced to a still high over 20%. Auto & General as well as Renew it are the worst ever. I would not recommend to any desperate man.
