Stay away from Auto & General if you can!

Auto & General Insurance is always quick to profess that their main interest is to help their clients...This is a blatant lie! We had to register a claim for a new garage door after somebody reversed into it and damaged it. The installer, Renier from RS Electrical was appointed and installed a new door and we paid an excess as per contract. About a month later the door started to malfunction, opening by itself and unfortunately even stopped short of the upper limit, which caused us to reverse our roof rack on our Landcruiser into the door while trying to drive out, not realising that it had stopped a few cm's short of the upper limit. This caused damage to the door. We told A&G that this is clearly a warranty case and that the installer would have to rectify it and also repair the damage. The installer Renier declined responsibilty and we told A&G we do not want to register another claim and pay another excess when this was clearly a malfunctioning motor and/or software. A&G promised to send an "impartial" assessor, which turned out to be the same Renier who installed the door and who was now asked to "impartially" judge his own work! What a joke! We meanwhile had collected proof from the security company and a footage from a security camera that the door indeed had opened numerous times by itself, posing a risk to our property. A&G, their claim managers and "claim resolution specialists" like Maryka Maritz and Vernleigh Morris kept on stating in many fruitless phone calls to resolve the issue that their clients interest comes first. Such a joke! Meanwhile, they care so much about us as their clients, that this had handed to be handed over to the ombudsman of short term insurance! For the past 3 months nothing has happened, the door still opens by itself randomly exposing cars, expensive bikes and equipment to anybody passing by. We made them aware that we are holding them responsible for any loss resulting from their complete negligence in resolving this, they could not even be bothered to answer anymore. Stay away from these ********* if you can. Fortunately there is enough competition out there. Their commitment to always act in their clients interest is a blatant lie. The ombudsman will hopefully bring them to book.

There response remains to be seen. I guess it will be a standard "courtesy call" used to calm irate customers down and we start from scratch again.... Our concerns are clear and no more discussion needed yet again. We have been asking for solutions since 3 months...nothing,
Watch it on Twitter....

We know that. We have only involved the ombudsman so he can force A&G to rectify the faulty garage door, which was installed by YOUR contact Renier from RS electrical. This is how A&G cares about their clients! You and the installer Renier are very aware since 4 months (!) already that the door opening randomly by itself poses a risk to our property as documented by alarm company and security camera footage, yet you are not doing anything about this appalling situation we where put in by YOUR supplier. This is not about the ombudsman, this is about an acute risk since 4 months that you or your supplier Renier is obliged to fix but obviously no interest from A&G whatsoever, instead conveniently pointing to the ombudsman. Watch our Twitter report of this. A&G has already rep**** on Twitter that they would call us but of course, nothing! My advice to everybody still, stay away from Auto & General if you can! We are busy cancelling our policies with them. Check on Hippo.co.za for competitors before you commit to this uncaring bunch!

And as expected, still no answer from Auto &General despite many promises for a reply. We even went out on Twitter, same empty promises to contact us. We are not surprised as we have experienced a history of lies with them. We will now have to force them legally to react to an appalling and security compromising situation at our house, caused by their installers and not being rectified despite the urgency and our appeals to them in 4 months (!). Is that what you want from your insurance company, to have to force them and their ******** partners legally to react to a legitimate and well documented fault caused by them and their installers?
No? Then, as said before, stay away from these *********. We are in the process of cancelling all our policies with them. Before it gets to the above, cancel yours as well!

The ombudsman is "looking into it" while any bypasser on the street is looking into our garage an can take anything they like if the faulty door installed by A&G's contractor choose to open again randomly. The behaviour of Auto & General is a complete disgrace, don't ever be fooled by them stating they act in your interest. They are a company of complete negligence who only contact you if they want your money. There are so many competitors out there, I thin every single one is better than the ******** of A&G!
