I started shopping around for new vehicle insurance during the month of October, which I ended up choosing Auto & General. I requested an initial quote via Hippo.co.za & immediately received a call on the 15th of October to be precise. Nicholas Dayaram called from Auto & General which we had a lengthy conversation, however what seemed to be fruitful on the day. I then requested that he sends me the quotation via email before I can concretely agree to take the policy. Subsequent to that, we spoke on the 16th of October which we telephonically agreed that my policy would commence on the 20th November as my income date is the 20th monthly & I had not nullified the current cover I have with another service provider. Repeatedly on the call by Nicholas Dayaram, was his mentioning premium that it would be R548,13, effective the 1st of November. I then objected to that I’d like the cover to commence on the 20th of October, with which he indicated that there would be a pro-rated amount for the 10 days between 20th October & 1st November, due to their coverage being from the beginning to the last day of the month. I agreed to the pro-rata which amounting to R176,82 thus on the 20th of October, R724,95 would be deducted & thereafter R548,13 would be deducted on a month basis effective 20th November. I then asked that he sends me an email confirming our agreement, I only received the policy confirmation instead & a Debi-check mandate to approve. To my surprise, on Saturday the 18th October, I wake up to a deduction of R829,68 from my account. I sent Nicholas an email to inquire why is there a debit order going off from my account, a whole month before our agreed upon date? To this day, he has never rep**** to that email. He however called me on the Tuesday the 21st of October to say “He knows about the debit order, he’s sorry it happened & he will get it rectified, & he did not get my email” which I was replying to an email that he had initially sent me when with the quotation, thus how is it that he did not receive my mail? Little did I know that it was the last time he would call me regarding the policy, or any other proceeding nonsense thereafter. As on the 26th October, the following Sunday from the initial deduction, another debit order amounting to R475,36 deducted from my account. To my annoyance from this incompetence, I sent him another email detailing the second debit order that has deducted off from my account & still, that’s the not the agreed date & who processes a debit order on a Sunday? I requested that the policy be nullified on the same email as I now figured that this is the worst possible way of dealing with this matter & I do not want to be inconvenienced. The 20th November came, another debit order deducted from my account & Nicholas Dayaram is unreachable, neither on the email address nor telephonic contact. I decided to call Auto & General on the number provided on their website, Andrew, their automated A/I asks “What can I do for you” repeatedly without assisting Well, Auto & General, I want you to refund the debit order deducted on the 20th November as I specifically sent a written request to your consultant Nicholas Dayaram on the 29th October, indicating the incompetence & inconvenience your company has brought to me, this is by far one of the most appalling services I’ve received, it’s disgusting & annoying.
