Is it so difficult to change a debit order date?

I want to change my debit order date and now they want to double debit me as I the premiums are paid in arrears and now they want to change it so that I pay ahead for the month??? why would my debit order date change the way things have always been done!! not impressed!! besides the fact that small amounts are going off my account, and with no explanation either
