Insurance premium and excess gone up

Hi,

I am insured with A&G, had an accident in Jan 2015, got a new car and insured it with A&G, explained all my accident details and history after which they gave me a quote I accepted. Now however I am getting charged an increased amount (R400 extra) as well as my excess being DOUBLED all because of my accident that wasn't even my fault. A&G has claimed back the money from the other persons insurance so there should be no need to increase my premiums as I was not at fault.

Hello Beamo,

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint and confirm that one of our Customer Relation Specialists has been in contact with you to discuss the reason(s) for the increase with you.

In order to clarify further:
When calculating a premium, various factors are taken into consideration such as the increase in the cost of vehicle repairs and parts , crime statistics, the risk area which a vehicle may be exposed to and high incidences of new drivers on our roads which increase the risk of being involved in an accident, to name a few.
In your case, your claims ratio also played a part in your premium increase, and although you were not the guilty party in the accident, a claim was submitted and administered by your Insurer.
We reviewed your policy and were unfortunately unable to reduce your premium.
As agreed, please expect a call from our sales team who will discuss alternative options with you.
We trust that you will find the above in order.
Regards,
The Auto & General.
