If you want an insurance to protect you - YOU DO NOT WANT Auto & General. Bad service is what you will receive

We had a geyser burst (which is located in the ceiling of one bedroom), which lasted for weeks. Resultant: Carpets were wet and smelly, wooden floors were dull (not shiny), the other bedroom wooden tiles were also damaged the ceiling was damaged. Steps we took to fix the situation whilst trying to locate the insurance from Nedbank – this happen a few weeks back:  The leak was stopped on the geyser  Tray was put under geyser, so that the water can leak outside the house. We discovered that the geyser was not heating up (element and thermostat or something like that was removed so that we can buy it to have it replace – we are still not certain if it will work)  We removed the wooden tiles in the main bedroom and put in tiles (this was done from the 26th to 28th February 2020)  We put in a new ceiling in that bedroom (which can easily be seen when comparing it with the ceiling from other rooms)  On the 27th Feb 2020, had a carpet cleaned (to date, it is still smelly)  Wooden floors in the passage and dining room were left as damaged (dull). After eventually being contacted by Rakeeba Abrahams on the 27th February 2020 (who gave me a good service), a plumber/evaluator was sent out to our property. At the time when the plumber came – we were tiling the walls and floor in another bedroom (which was also damaged by water) but we were also the carpets that are still smelly. After waiting for a week and speaking to so many people, yesterday I called to enquire about the status of my claim – Jasmeen Mckenzie she told me that she was updated that we need to buy the components and fix the geyser ourselves. Is this the right service?

The report that was provided to an administrator was, we are busy with major renovations in the house. The geyser did not have components (My husband did tell him that we were trying to fix it, the plumber had taken those out because the geyser was not heating up). The house was left vacant (NO ONE WAS STAYING THERE). How true is that? Did Auto & General want to pay this claim? For him to say that – did he check with City of Tshwane how much we paid for electricity and water, to be able to determine that we paid R0.00 for the past year? Did the evaluator know what he was doing? By taking insurance with Auto & General, are we even protected? If you are fixing something in your house, is that a major renovation that will then disqualify your claim from being paid? Are we just being ****** by Auto & General?

Hi Elaine,
We confirm that the matter was discussed and the agreement is that the geyser will be replaced.
Please also contact our claims team back regarding the resultant damages, as we are unable to get hold of the policy holder.

We do apologise for any frustration this has caused.
Kind Regards,
The Auto & General Team.
