Hidden Smoke Before the Fire

I'm appalled at the shocking service that auto and general has provided us after all our years of loyal support. Our tenant makes a fire in an non functional fireplace, admits to us that he wondered where the smoke would come out as it does not have a functional chimney which is obvious even to an idiot, (all of which we have on whatsap voice message) makes a small fire of twigs as he states, goes outside for however long and the entire house starts burning whilst he is presumably outside. Was the tenant even there after making the fire or did he leave the premises? for a fire to burn to that extent its obvious to any body that there was nobody present at the premises. Auto & General and the assessor accept the tenants version that he didn't know it wasn't functional AND admits that he was outside after making the fire. Who makes a fire and isn't present to watch that it doesn't get of control, and still Auto and General takes his word after it is evident that he is hugely negligent and repudiate our claim.

Very sad to think that one puts their faith in a large organisation thinking that if one insures their home as we have with a A&G for years that in an event of negligence caused by a tenant, one would be covered. We have literally lost everything and the best part was after they rejected the claim they cancelled our insurance... even better was the ridiculous amounts the assessor quoted on the repair of the property. The entire house could be rebuilt from top to bottom for that amount.

****************.... and despicable service from such a large group. Can Auto and General be trusted with our properties and our lives? NO!

Auto and General has repudiated the claim and fought against us with the Ombud so unless you wish to re look at the claim I see no point in contacting yourselves. I feel the public must be aware of what they are getting themselves into should they insure with your company.

Update:
We confirm that this matter has been reviewed on previous occasions and we regret to inform you that the outcome herein will remain unchanged.

We further confirm that you have referred the matter to the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance, who could not fault our decision not to pay for the claim.

In view of the above we are closing our file.
Kind Regards,
The Auto & General Team.

and you informed the ombudsman that the tenant didn't know that it was not functional. Again my point, no proper investigation was done by any party to establish whether the tenant was actually on the premises after the fire was lit in what can clearly be seen by any idiot as a non functional fireplace. I have a recording my phone from the tenant stating he wondered where the smoke went out. I have his interview with the SAPS on recording stating he wondered where the smoke went out, and still you repudiate our claim by simply stating the tenants version. You closed your file long ago in fact in September 2018! In the interim we have lost our home, and now having to leave our jobs in Cape Town and go home and try and rebuild the house and suffer the loss of income and restart lives! THAT IS WHAT AUTO AND GENERAL DOES TO LIVES! I will make the public aware of what Auto and General does to people. I am sending my story to Carte Blanche and to all social media platforms.
