Charging me R10 000 'prejudice fee' for claim
On 19-Dec-2015 I was involved in a car accident. My mother was driving me to work so that she could borrow my car for the day. I immediately initiated a claim with A&G in terms of the policy I have had with them for the past 18 months.

A&G came back to me on 19-Jan-2016 to say that they would only partly pay my claim. They are charging me a ~R10 000 'prejudice fee' because they claim they cannot verify my insurance history. They claim my premiums have been too low for the past 18 months, so now I must pay a penalty in order to claim. They are now also going to raise my monthly premium by ~50%.

I had stated that a previous car of mine had been covered by a policy with Outsurance that was held in my mother's name. In good faith, I interpreted the question to be asking whether any cars I previously owned were covered while I was driving them. Outsurance has provided a full record of the policy and claims history on my old car.

I do not have R10 000 in my budget now for sudden costs I thought I was insured against. I would advise anyone who wants peace of mind from their insurance policies to AVOID Auto & General. I will be changing as soon as I can.
