Bending rules to suit claim outcome
My wifes car was hit from behind and written off. The insurance company phoned my daughter (driver at the time) to get details. My daughter said in her conversation that she drives the car more than my wife. This statement is true for the times when they are together, however, my wife drives the car every day and often the daughter is working and would be unaware of the amount of driving that my wife does. However, the insurance company never contacted my wife, who is the owner of the car, to verify the daughters belief. As my wife was on the policy as the regular driver the insurance company reduced the claim by 25%. The retail value offered was no where near the cars actual value, then reduced further by the 25% for an accident caused by a third party. I was informed it is also not who drives the car for the most Km but who drives it more often. The car had low milage indicating that it is not driven much at the best of times so the risk of an accident compared to other insured cars was low to start with. Even after I sent emails to the fact that my wife is still considered the regular driver no one from the insurance bothered to verify this as they need to minimise the claim.
