Autp @ General - stay away
Let me start off by saying that the consultant I dealt with was Nicole. She was very friendly, helpful and confident and I am sorry she had to be on the other end of my call. (Nicole I am sure Discovery or Outsurance would snap you up in a heartbeat. You are wasting your time with Auto @ General).
I purchased a brand new Kia Picanto 3.5 years ago for my sister who fell on hard times. I agreed to pay the instalments and Insurance. I went onto hippo.com to get a quote and decided to go with Auto @ General. (Huge mistake).
During the questioning I made it very clear that she would be the primary driver and the car would be used for business purposes as she earned a small amount of cash by transporting pensioners to the hairdresser and doctors appointments e.t.c. If there were 10 of these trips a month it would be a lot and very little money was earned.
From September 2019 until January 2020 I changed the primary driver to my other sister as the sister who was the primary driver was incapacitated. The address had also changed to Bramley so the premiums went up. This is understandable as Bramley is 500m away form Alexandra Township and is considered a dangerous area.
Recently the incapacitated sister was able to drive again and I called Auto and General to update the primary driver and address details. I was asked if the driver was employed to which I rep**** that she was not but earns a minute income by transporting pensioners to appointments. (Exactly the way it was before). I was then informed that the car cannot be insured because the car is being used as a taxi. I was informed that If there was an accident claim it would have been rejected as the car was being used as a taxi. So I have paid 3.5 years worth of premiums and I have not been insured. WHERE IS MY REFUND Auto @ General. How can you take my premiums when you know I am not insured?
Be careful people. If you and your friends go on a road trip and share the costs for fuel and you receive remuneration form them, Autp @ General will consider this as generating income, regard you as a taxi and reject you claim if there was one.. They are ruthless and will do anything to find an excuse not to pay a claim.
To make matters worse, I asked if the car would still be insured for theft. I was informed that it would be the the premium would be be just over 20% more. I asked for an explanation as the driver and address were identical to what they previously were. The explanation I got was that is what the computer says. So by changing the primary driver from one sister to another , the premium has gone up by 20%.
You may be asking why I have not changed insurance companies. Well I am due a claims free bonus in August of R11000.00. I assure you that as soon as that money lands in my bank account I will seek a new insurer.
With the economy the way it is in SA currently, it is beyond me that a company like Auto @ General would be prepared to loose a client over something like this. Its all about greed.
People will always talk about bad service they received but very few will talk about good service.
DO YOU NOT REALIZE AUTO @ GENERAL THAT EVERYONE I TALK TO WILL KNOW ABOUT THIS AND EVERYONE THEY TALK TO WILL KNOW TOO.
