Auto & General Debited My Account on the Wrong Date – Left Me Stranded at Pick n Pay With No Food or Electricity

Auto & General, what you did is unacceptable.

I had R500 in my account. That was my _last_ money. I budgeted every rand: under R100 for meat, some for electricity because my meter is beeping, and petrol to get me through to Monday the 20th. That’s when my debit order is SUPPOSED to come off.

Instead, you debited my account on *Friday the 17th*. The WRONG DATE.

I only found out when I was at the Pick n Pay till trying to buy food for my house. Swipe – DECLINED. Swipe again – DECLINED. I stood there like an idiot while people waited behind me. I thought my card was faulty. Only when I checked my app did I see YOU took my money 3 days early.

Because of you: 1. *I have no food in the house.* 2. *My electricity is beeping* and I can’t buy units now because you emptied my account. 3. *I can’t even reverse the debit* on my app. 4. *I was humiliated in public* for something that is 100% your fault.

How dare you take money on the wrong date? Who gave you permission to change debit dates? Do you understand that people plan around these dates because we don’t have extra money lying around?

I haven’t even called you yet because I’m too angry. I came straight here.

This is not just an “admin error”. This is you leaving your customer with no food and no power because you can’t follow your own debit schedule.

*I want:* 1. An explanation for why you debited on the 17th instead of the 20th. 2. Immediate reversal or compensation because I’m now stuck until payday. 3. Assurance this will NEVER happen again.

If you can’t debit on the correct date, don’t take debit orders at all. I trusted you with access to my account and you abused it.

“Concerned” and “happily look into it” is not good enough when I’m sitting with NO FOOD and NO ELECTRICITY because of YOUR mistake.

Let me be clear so there’s no confusion:

*Because of YOU:*
1. *I am now being charged bank fees* – my account is in negative balance since you debited early.
2. *I have no food in my house* – the money was for meat at Pick n Pay where I was declined and humiliated.
3. *I have no electricity* – my meter is beeping and I can’t buy units.
4. *I cannot get to work* – I had set aside petrol money and you took it.

This happened because YOU debited my account on Friday the 17th instead of Monday the 20th. That is 3 days early. You took my last R500 without authorization to change the date.

I don’t need you to “look into it” for weeks. I need:

1. *Immediate reversal of the debit* OR immediate compensation into my account TODAY, 18 April 2026.
2. *Confirmation in writing* that you will cover any bank fees/penalties I incur because my account went negative due to your early debit.
3. *Proof that you have fixed my debit date* so this never happens again.

“Your team will be in touch” means nothing to me when I’m hungry and my lights are about to go off. I’m in this crisis NOW because of your error.

Every hour you delay is another hour I’m without basic needs. Escalate this to a manager immediately.

Your response makes no sense and I’m not accepting it.

1. *You admit my deduction date is the 20th.* You noted it on my policy. So why did money leave my account on the 17th? A mandate for the 20th does NOT give you permission to debit on the 17th.

2. *I work for a bank.* Don’t try to confuse me with “DebiCheck” vs “registered mandate”. I know exactly how it works:
- *DebiCheck* = You send a request, I approve the date and amount. If I didn’t approve it on time, then NO DEBIT should have happened. Period.
- *Registered mandate/Naedo* = You are only allowed to process within the mandate terms. My mandate says the 20th. Not “on or before”. Not “whenever you feel like it”. The 20th.

If DebiCheck wasn’t approved, the debit should have FAILED, not defaulted to an earlier date via another system. My bank didn’t “let it go early” — my bank processed exactly what YOU presented. You presented a debit on the 17th against a mandate dated the 20th. That’s on YOU.

3. *The damage is already done.* Your “inconvenience” left me with:
- Bank fees because I’m now negative,
- No food in the house,
- Electricity about to cut off,
- Public humiliation at Pick n Pay.

Telling me I’ll get a new DebiCheck request “within the next business day” does not put food on my table TODAY. It does not put units in my meter TODAY.

*I do not want another explanation. I want action:*
1. *Reverse the debit immediately* or pay the full amount back into my account TODAY, 18 April 2026.
2. *Send me written confirmation* that Auto & General will reimburse all bank charges caused by your early debit.
3. *Send me proof* that my mandate has been corrected to the 20th only, and that no early debits will ever happen again.

Stop hiding behind technical terms. You breached the debit order date on my policy. Fix it now. Escalate this to your complaints manager and the compliance department.

I’m keeping all screenshots and this HelloPeter thread. If this isn’t resolved TODAY, my next step is the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance and a formal dispute with my bank for “debit order not according to mandate”.
