Auto and General insurance cancelled with no notice.
My husband, the policy holder, died suddenly at the end of October. Before I sent the documents to the team managing his estate, I highlighted a sentence in a letter I had received which stated that in the event of the death of the policy holder, premiums would be suspended for 6 months. Of course I cannot find a copy of this letter! Losing husband is not a light matter. The brain goes into spasm and takes on a life of its own. However, at the beginning of May I thought I should inquire about taking over the payment of the premiums. On phoning Auto and General I discovered that the policy had been cancelled in February due to non-payment of the premiums. WHAT A SHOCK! I had been driving an uninsured car for FOUR MONTHS. Why was no attempt made to contact me? After all, the insured car was in my name!!! Good heavens the consequences of being on the road without insurance could have been so bad. The household insurance didn't bother me so much- even though this was also cancelled. The administrators of the estate had tried to get a copy of the policy for months, I have tried subsequently. No contact from Auto and General. They certainly don't take client care seriously. Be warned: if your spouse/ partner dies suddenly get on to your insurance company immediately. And don't assume assume that you will remain covered. must do it.
