auto and general ****** and useless ombudsman
insurance companies are a **** and auto and general is the worst. They are ****** of no description. my family home had an incident with a fire and in the process one of the rooms was totally burnt and left the whole house smoked. my parents lodged a claim with auto and general an assessor was sent to verify and cost the damages. another one was sent for a lack of better word i will refer to as needs assessor. they were told to pack and look for a place to stay that the insurance would pay for because there was no window on the room that had burnt which was a security risk, secondly it was in the middle of winter, thirdly it was difficult to breath and the wooden floors were soaked.
while packing they received a call from auto and general head office and the person said that they had missed a payment for the month of June and because of that they were not cover at the period of the incident and would not be assisted.
the irony with all of this is that, my father retired in January this year and had alerted auto and general and in the process requested them to review his premium and change the deduction date from the 15th to the 30 as he would be paid at the end of each month. this was further recorded in a letter that auto and general sent to him dated 18 June 2018 wherein the company acknowledged the changes and stated that in terms of their protection rules by the 29th of that month he should have funds in his account to cater for the 14 days in June that were not covered and the whole of July 2018. my parents have tried to make a follow up through the Ombudsman but have found no joy. the response from the ombudsman did not consider the above facts even with evidence of a letter from auto and general attached. instead ombudsman simply reiterated what was said by the head office person.
auto and general people maintain that my ****her said he was canceling the policy. however what for the life of me can not understand is who can cancel a policy for 14 days and continue with it the following month. when the policy is governed by protection rules. they deducted the agreed amount on the 29th of June the day agreed on but still they are refusing to settle the claim. my father said he would cancel the policy if the consultant was not giving him a better offer as a pensioner and not making the changes to deduction date. the letter of the 18 June 2018 attests to the talks that took place between my father and the consultant and the fact that auto and general and the ombudsman are not considering that is beyond me. the lack of integrity is appalling.
