1 year and counting - R6 500 excess not returned to me

After a year of waiting for my excess amount of R6500 to be paid back to me I received this final message from the attorneys appointed by Auto and General: I have attempted to call but there was no answer. We regret to advise that the attorneys have not been able to successfully recover any amounts for the claims incident of 2021-03-26. The file has now been abandoned. Reason for Closure: Quantum too low to litigate

It is very disappointing, I feel so let down. Maybe to the people involved this amount means nothing much but to me it meant a whole lot. I can not understand how this is allowed. I pay my premiums and I was not the party at fault but I paid and the person who smashed into me gets away scot-free just because they could not reach him?? How is that fair?
