Geyser Manufactures taking consumers for a ride

Geyser manufacturers in South Africa, such as “Kwikot” and “Ariston,” advertise a five-year warranty on their geysers in the event of a burst. However, this promise is misleading and leaves consumers vulnerable, as crucial information about the warranty’s limitations is often withheld. When my geyser burst in July 2022 and I replaced it with a new “Ariston,” I discovered firsthand how these companies fail to truly protect their customers. On the Saturday morning, the 7th of September 2025, when I went outside, I saw that water was streaming out of the geyser. I called a certified and registered plumbing company to come and replace it with a new one. On Monday, I contacted “Ariston” and told them that the geyser had burst within this 5-year warranty period. They told me that their representative needs to inspect the installation first before they will replace it or refund me. I then contacted “Kwikkot.” to my dismay, both companies gave me the same answer: if a geyser bursts, their representative must inspect the installation before the warranty is honored. This inspection can take up to 72 hours, during which you are left without water—a basic necessity—because geysers lack a separate inlet. Even when I showed them a COC certificate from the plumbing company that did the installation, it made no difference.” This experience revealed how these manufacturers place the burden on consumers, rather than providing the protection they promise. I strongly urge all consumers: after installation, contact the manufacturer in writing and keep their confirmation, so you are not left stranded if your geyser fails within the supposed five-year warranty period.
