Financing a vehicle that has been sold

We have done an application to buy a Ford Ranger 2.2 on Monday the 07th November 2016 with Quentin Grobler, I have phoned numerous times to find out if the finance has been approved where Quentin just says that he will phone back and eventually never does. I spoke to the lady standing in for the F&I and also said we will come back to you, now a week later I phone once again and another consultant says to me but mam that vehicle has been sold already! So really really bad service! how can they do that? !!!!

Good day Chene
I’m sorry for the inconvenience regarding your finance transaction that I have handled for you. We are fortunate to be an extremely busy Dealership, were at times it proves a tall order to keep all our customers informed every step of the way. There are no excuses for the lack of communication regarding the transaction and I do apologize for this.
Your Trade in vehicle was problematic on our side, in finding a good covers from other dealers, which might have been interested to pay more than we were able to, and yes, we were still awaiting their feedback, all in order to avoid you having to pay a large deposit on the new vehicle.
Unfortunately the only way we can secure a vehicle on behalf of a customer is when the details of the transaction (including final price made on your Trade in) is finalized, accepted and a reservation fee/ deposit is paid on the vehicle. Up until that stage the advertised vehicle remains in the market to be sold to anyone.
At the point where the other customer were buying the vehicle, we could not determine a final cover prize on your trade in, due to a relative large settlement on your side and deposit required on our vehicle. Unfortunately, it is just as unfair to the other prospective buyer, to show him/her away in this instance, when the details of the other transaction cannot be finalized and be accepted at that stage.
While we were busy with the application and getting the price ready for your trade in vehicle, the vehicle was unfortunately sold to another client.
We will keep looking for you for another vehicle and assure you of our best service going forward.
Regards
Quentin Grobler

Good Afternoon Quentin,
Thank you for your reply; a simple reply like this could have avoided this situation. Yes; you are busy like all of us are. I am an HR Officer for a Company of more than 10 000 employees and still managed to keep on phoning to find out what was going on.
If you took 5 min out of your very busy schedule to contact me and explained the situation then I would have said its okay don’t worry or what is the best you can offer us on the trade in can you load it on the new vehicle or can we settle it? It’s defiantly not our first time buying a vehicle so we are aware of things like this.
Also, there was no mention of any holding deposit? if there was, we would have gladly paid it.
Oh and by the way, if you took the time to phone Subaru you would have seen that our trade value is about +- R190 000, you would have offered what – R170 000? (It took another bigger dealership 10 min to do that?) Not 2 weeks.
Honestly, I just would have thought that a potential Customer would be priority on any Sales Consultants list, clearly not the case at Atterbury Motors.
I have absolutely no further intention to purchase any vehicle from a dealership where the sales consultants are too busy to keep in contact with the customer and to provide feedback, where they sell a vehicle to more than one customer at a time and see who can come up with the most cash or whose finance is approved first? Even in this situation, you as sales Consultant take 5 minutes and you inform all interested parties of the situation.
Kind Regards,
Chene van Staden
