Smoking 250SS outboard Atlantic Suzuki

Purchased a brand new Suzuki 250SS from Atlantic Suzuki. After starting the new outboard I noticed smoking. Notified Atlantic Suzuki who suggested that it just needs to run in and it will go away. I reported again to the dealer and he suggested that it just needs to be run in at higher speeds. I retuned the outboard to the dealer after which Suzuki Auto South Africa sent a technician to inspect. I joined them and the engine now inside the workshop smoked to the extent that we had to stand clear of the engine.

The problem was reported to Japan who claims this to be normal. Reality is that no 4 Stroke engine smokes unless the product or design is defective. No sales person, sales material, specification discloses this problem with the product. If this was known to me I would have opted for a different product and was not afforded the opportunity.

Being a brand new engine I requested that I either be given the opportunity to swop the motor with a model that does not smoke or even pay in for a different model not to have a smoking engine.

I now own a brand new smoking outboard and left to try and sell it on at a loss. As a smoking 4 stroke engine is not what I intended purchasing and not acceptable. I have to make it known to prospective buyers that the engine smokes and understandably no one is interested. If only I was told that the engine will smoke before I bought it. Must be known to Suzuki who claims this to be “normal”
