URGENT: Wrong Fuel Filled by Astron Petrol Attendant – Now Denying Responsibility

On 30/06/25, I visited the Astron Energy petrol station located at Mobeni Durban KZN and clearly requested unleaded petrol for my vehicle. Instead, the attendant filled diesel into my car without informing me. As a result, my vehicle stalled and could not start for two days.

I had to pay for two separate mechanic visits, and on the second inspection, the mechanic confirmed that diesel had been pumped into my petrol vehicle. The damage caused significant inconvenience and financial loss. Despite clear evidence, the garage staff is now denying responsibility and offering no assistance or accountability.

I Request A full written apology and acknowledgment

Full reimbur*****t for the repairs, transport costs, and mechanic fees

Compensation for the downtime and stress caused by your team’s error

If I do not receive a proper response within 48 hours, I will be escalating this matter to the Consumer Goods & Services Ombud and pursuing legal options. I have mechanic reports, and relevant proof on hand. I expect immediate and professional resolution.

Wayne Nel has sent an email still insisting that they had nothing to do diesel being filled in my car I suppose it's our fault here is an email he has sent below.

We have had a look at the CCTV footage and it is clearly visible that the vehicle was at P2 which is Unleaded fuel. It is clearly visible that ULP was dispensed into the vehicle. The video footage is available for viewing.

Regards
Wayne

I am unhappy with the response and will be contacting the ombudsman and relevant departments.

I completely reject your denial and need to clarify the facts:
  1. I specifically requested petrol, not diesel, and trusted your staff to act accordingly.
  2. After my car failed to start, I had to call in two different mechanics to inspect it. The second mechanic confirmed diesel was in the tank of a petrol vehicle.
  3. We pumped the diesel out precisely because that is the only way to fix the mistake your team made. We wouldn’t have had to do this if the correct fuel was filled in the first place.
  4. The fact that diesel was found in my petrol tank proves negligence at the point of service – there is no other way diesel could have entered my vehicle.
I have all the supporting documentation:
  • Mechanic’s report confirming diesel was present
  • Receipts
  • Timeline of events
  • Proof that my vehicle was unable to operate after refueling at your garage
Your response shows no accountability and puts your customers at risk. I am not interested in playing blame games – I am demanding:
  • A full investigation
  • A written acknowledgment
  • Reimbur*****t of my mechanical repair costs and losses due to downtime
If this is not resolved within the next 48 hours, I will escalate this case to:
  • The Consumer Goods & Services Ombud (CGSO)
  • Public platforms with all documentation
  • A legal claim for damages due to proven negligence
I expect a serious and professional response—not deflection. The facts speak for themselves.
