ASATA is for travel agants and not for the consumer

My travel holiday cruise was cancelled due to Covid and my refund was 38% of my total payment. A detailed summary was sent to ASATA ombudsman to assist with my concern. Imagine Cruising claimed that they could not give me a breakdown of costs which included flights from Cape Town to Dubai, a 23 day cruise from Dubai to Italy and a flight back from Italy to Cape Town because it was a packaged deal. I could not understand that the bulk of the holiday, which was the cruise, did not take place yet the bulk of my money, 68% of it was deducted without a reason of explanation. The ombudsman is supposed to assist consumers when they are taken for a ride, but they indicated that I had no case and that they could not assist me and closed the case. Ombudsman are not for the consumer, rather for the business which I have experienced many times, and this is a typical example. So even if a travel agent subscribes to ASATA, make sure that you do your own precautions and investigations as you can be assured that you will receive no assistance from ASATA
